What’s Your Donkey?
Better late than never! I promised the locals that I would clarify some sermon propaganda that the kids handed out to everyone on Palm Sunday. The ‘What’s Your Donkey?’ card sparked some good conversations. Even the men had a chat about it over their A&W coffee the next morning!
In the story found in Matthew 21:1-11, we discover that the donkey is not simply an extra in the drama of Jesus entering Jerusalem. For Matthew, the donkey is a key to unlock the significance of the event. In essence, the ride Jesus conscripted into service reveals his authority, identity and purpose. The Lord of all is found in Jesus as the promised King and he comes in peace.
So, what do we do with the story?
As I reflected on the passage, I began to wonder, ‘what is my donkey?’ On one level it suggests that I may have something that God could use for his purposes. On an expanded level, there may be something in my life that God longs to use in order to reveal Jesus to others.
And it may be something as ordinary and simple as a donkey.
So, what’s your donkey?

What is my donkey? The ladies also discussed this “donkey business” at the Bible Study on the Monday following. Quite something Scott. I have pondered this and have come to the conclusion that my donkey is learning to wait on the Lord. to rest in Him and not to be anxious over anything. Does that make sense Scott?……it does to me May you experience the peace and love of God in your life.
Sounds like a good direction, Maureen. Our time is something that we can hand over to God to be used for his purposes.
Thanks Scott …. God bless….
